Breaking: After months of national outcry, Tennessee Governor Bill Haslam has granted clemency to Cyntoia Brown. Cyntoia is currently serving a life sentence after being convicted of first-degree murder after shooting her rapist at 16. As a teenager, she was sexually trafficked and repeatedly abused and drugged. She was tried as an adult and convicted on murder charges after she killed her 43-year-old abuser and trafficker. Brown says he was behaving erratically and owned a number of guns, and that she feared for her life when she shot him in the head and made her escape. After 15 years of incarceration, Brown will finally be released from prison August 7.
