Protesters left 7,000 empty pairs of shoes outside the U.S. Capitol building on Tuesday to symbolize the 7,000 children who have died from gun violence in the United States since the Sandy Hook school shooting in 2012. ?
The event comes as gun laws have come to the forefront of discussions on Capitol Hill and the nation following the February shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Florida.
