I’ve been biding my time, waiting for an opportunity to go shoot some frames of the real-life new toy but other stuff keeps getting in the way.
So here:
Had to have wheels for the new job, and to be an actual professional photographer, so here it is. Our own dignified little zoomzoom. And yes it does.
I haven’t had a car in… oh… over fifteen years. Haven’t needed one. Haven’t wanted one. I’ve always lived downtown or been more than happy to bike there. Some of you may remember the last car I called my own: the draggin waggin. The old Chevy 350 V8 that never lost a race. If you started to pull ahead I’d just start to pull into you and you’d make the sensible choice.
Lots of memories in that tank despite only having it for a year or two.
But when she went I let her go. My bike was always good enough and the girls I dated were willing to humour me. Or pick me up. Whatev. I still have an ass of steel because of it.
But it’s time. Gotta have the range and a roof over my gear. And my tripod is a lot heavier now.
We put a lot of thought into the decision. A car isn’t cheap. Traffic sucks. Gas prices suck. Break-&-enters suck. From that perspective no one in their right mind could possibly want a car. On the other hand we don’t have to mooch rides from friends any more. We can even go visit them. Ikea isn’t Mecca anymore. It’s just a short jaunt. Road trip to… wherever we get the urge. And yes, I can commute to wherever they happen to be filming.
