HAPPY CANADA DAY! Here’s me standing beside one of my favorite Canadians, @alanis! Pic was taken in front of @jayandsilentbobstash v.1 on Monmouth street (with a massive @jayandsilentbob window mural painted by @samosier) back when Alanis came to Red Bank to visit in 1997. I was familiar with her early work on #youcantdothatontelevision but at this point in her story, #alanis was enjoying worldwide, multi platinum success with her incredible #jaggedlittlepill album. And for a kid at the epicenter of sudden success of Biblical proportions, Alanis kept a cool head and a centered attitude. She could be (and I’m sure remains) so fucking funny and also so super serious too. And even though I was older than her, she was far wiser than me. Months after we took this pic, I’d cast her as God in my fourth film, #Dogma. And whenever folks would ask why I chose Nadine to play my Supreme Being, the answer was always easy: “Because if God exists, She’s definitely a Canadian.” Heaven is a place on Earth – and that place is called The Great White North.
