celebration of light – july 29 – china

So far I’ve seen two stylistic stereotypes reaffirmed. Italy’s show was all about passion and China was beautifully poetic. Nice.

Rather than list China’s soundtrack I will just say they used a selection from The Yellow River Cantata, played by the Philharmonic Symphony Orchestra of China, neither of which I know anything about but what little I heard from the roof was very suitable – achingly beautiful, dreamy and surreal in a misty way. Most of the presentation felt slow-motion. If my words imply any lack of impact in the show I blame Krafty Kuts and Felix da Housecat, currently tickling my tweeters with considerably more tempo than China’s audiovisual symphony. Believe me – China performed.

My apologies in advance for the motion blur. I’m still proud owner of a very basic tripod from London Drugs and still not the proud owner of a remote shutter release. I’ve since borrowed a kick-ass outfit from Stan, another better-than-amateur photographer, in exchange for bringing him up to the roof with us for the shows.

I may never know if China meant to blow those massive crackers at water level but I think it’s super-fun they did. Have to wonder what the lads on the firefighters’ boat were thinking, finding themselves suddenly in the middle of the show.

Coming up Wednesday – the Czech Republic with a very intriguing soundtrack.
