The irony is inescapable. Just when I decide to commit to taking photography seriously my camera slides into the deep end.

Of course I have no one to blame but myself. One too many excursions into the weather. To take pictures of giant waves. From up close.

But what did I know? This trusty beast withstood shots of Jager, spilled beer, even spaghetti sauce. Who would have thunk that one more rain storm would do the trick? Maybe I was pushing my luck a little.

She’s not dead yet but she’s looking forward to retirement. The flip-out viewer whites out after a couple minutes, and stays that way for a couple hours before coming briefly back to life. I figure that’s a few hundred bucks worth of repair and as much as I love her if I’m going to drop a bundle it might as well be on an upgrade.

Now, of course, I need to decide on an upgrade. Why, oh WHY can’t I get what I want in a camera? Give me a digital SLR with a flip-out monitor. Is that so much to ask? I’m willing to find the money somewhere to pay for it, so all you have to do is make it.

I tell ya. When I’M in charge things will be different. =)

Helluva weekend though. Thanks to Grant & Lola & Tammie & Dave & Ivan for some very good times. Jen had a blast & loves you all. She’s itching to get some more Lola & Tammie time under her belt so be advised.

Maybe this time, though, we’ll all have to make a more concerted effort to pace ourselves. Or just skip the rye. Shnykees. I have to laugh now, but what a gong show we must have been. We have to get together again while the “memory” is “fresh” and compare notes. I’d love to know more about our walk home. I bought natchos at 7-11. hoowah.

  1. we definitely need to have brunch and piece the night together.

turns out, when dave, grant and i compared notes, all of us went to the 7-11 (at seperate times). i don’t know why i find that kind of hilarious, but i do. like, the beacon of hope for drunks = 7-11.

pacing ourselves is a good idea.

(perhaps it’s fate, don’t knock it)
Upgrade! Buy somthing that has “PROFESSIONAL” stamped on the side.
I hear ya on the “can’t get what ya want” front
A digi with a flip-out screen that accepts SLR lenses would be crazy cool. Hello Telephoto! Hello Fisheye!

And you know we need to give those iPod people a stern talking to.

  2. Adrian, so sorry to hear about your loss. Better to have loved and lost that never to have lost at all. And they say there are more fish in the sea. There will be an upgrade.

  3. Sorry to hear about your camera :( Boooooooo….

  4. Ack!! So sorry to hear about your loss :( I’ll be watching closely to see what you upgrade to, it’s seems our little blogosphere is going through a camera-replacement phase :)
