hollywood sunset

In the never-ending story the credits never roll. Every ending is just a scene change. Cast change. Plot twist. Sometimes the bad guys win and sometimes the wheel of karma seems a long time coming round. But never does the story end.

Makes you wonder why everyone is in such a hurry.

So much drama. Everyone is privately convinced they’re the star in the feature attraction. In a way they aren’t wrong. But in the larger sense if they just had a clear idea of where they really stood I think we’d all get along much better.

If everyone would just be more prepared to admit that they might be wrong, or that things have changed, wouldn’t the whole joint be a happier place? Pride is a complex and fickle thing. Arrogance and greed and pride. And fear. When we’re just talking about Mrs Smith’s prize roses that’s one thing, but at the other end of the scale you’ve got politicians and corporate execs and religious leaders and they’re just people, just like you & me. Same faults. Same wilful blindness.

Is it so much to ask that every once in a while these fallible people be reminded of their place? Their real place?

When everything that’s wrong with politics and business and religion comes down to the same root… wouldn’t it be nice to have a gong we could wack, and the big hook would sneak in from stage-right and yoink the fucker?
