Talktalk and I don’t hang out as much as I’d like. He’s got a great girlfriend that gets most of his time, and I’m very happy for him. We were going to head up island to visit my folks and give him & me a chance to catch up. Him & me. Believe it or not, that’s correct grammar. Eew. Better to rewrite the whole sentence… next time.
Anyway, his truck isn’t quite up to tackling the Malahat highway so we hung out in town. He wanted to check out some vintage bunkers I’d been to a couple weeks ago. (last week? *shrug*) and after that we decided I needed to see the Royal Roads campus.
For anyone living under a rock for the past couple years, Hatley Castle, the centerpiece at Royal Roads, is where the opening sequence and some of the interiors were shot for X-men II (starring our own Double-A, and those pics are here).
I’ve lived in Victoria since ’89 except for a summer in Prince George and a year in Vancouver, and even though I’ve driven past the RR grounds about a hojillion times I’ve somehow never made it in there. Talktalk decided we should remedy that. So we did. Had a really good time too.
Naturally the castle is haunted by a suicide maid, but we couldn’t get a hold of her for the tour so we made do on our own. Next time we go back I’ll hold out for the quality, have no fear.
