apostrophe cata…

A lot of us have seen this comic strip before (repriinted here totally without permission, but I figure he’d rather I did the hosting anyway). It’s Bob, the Angry Flower. His message here is simple and universal, and he has our best interests at heart.

Please. Take heed, my friends. He’s trying to save lives.

  1. This is true. Sadly many people don’t understand proper use of the apostrophe. I got dinged one too many times (usually using “it’s” instead of “its”, etc) on reports that I’m quite careful with it.

  2. Yea, “its” is a weird one. If I remember correctly, you don’t use an apostrophe with “its” in a possessive form, only as a contraction.

or I’m way off. One or the other.

  3. One of my favorites is 80’s. Who’s 80? And what’s he got? He’s… what?

I suppose you might get away with “The music belonging to 1980-1989” as “The 80’s music” but that’s reaching. And weird.

  4. …or CD’s. NOOOOOO.

(And DJ… the one other time you can use “It’s” is when you are describing something belonging to Cousin It, of Addam’s Family fame.)
