bleargh

yuk

A new record for me. I’ve had more sick time off work in the last two months than in the last ten years combined. More even.

Something like four days. Ridiculous, I tell you!

So I haven’t been a good blogger because of my stubborn quest for sleep. Keep talking, though. I’ll catch up.

  1. well, in opposition to your “lack of women” theory, I once dated a man around whom I was ALWAYS painfully bloated. I kid you not. It was really strange. Everytime I saw him, no matter what I ate or didn’t eat, I’d get an upset stomache. Thankfully, it was a long-distance relationship.

  2. I would have to agree with gurton… but at the same time, realistically I’d say evgenya has it. That’s the same thing I was going to say, but she beat me to it.

Stress is just as powerful (if not more) than any bug or germ. Be aware of that my friend. Rest up.

  3. “Keep talking, though. I’ll catch up.”

Well, you just invited us to chat about anything we wanted, so I’ll pick a possibly relevant question: How much does stress in your life affect your health? Would your recent bouts of illness have anything to do with increased stress in your life? ‘just a question…

Personally, I have at least half-a-dozen stress-related physical effects. but usually the “sick days” come just after a stressful-go-go-go period.

there you go… starting up my own conversation in your blog-box. :) Feel better!

    COMMENT:
I blame the lack of women in our lives.

  4. stress so has an effect on me — sleep being the primary bitch. No sleep just makes everything else worse.

i have plenty of women in my life….*cough*

  5. As easy as it is to blame stress, I think the rav was the straw that broke our dj camel’s back. Sleep dep is a nasty mofo, especially when you combine it with all the raver scuz. Toss in a pinch of stress and voila! Infestasheeyon!

  6. Wow, REALLY nice pics! Ya, there were a lot of them taken of my candle thingy, whatever it is I’m doing, not quite sure… but it is fun! Two more times to do it… LL3 and the next party on the 30th hehehe. I’m gonna try to make it somewhat different, but who knows…. I must find other vessels to candle :)

  7. Woo! I just woke up and had NO IDEA if it was AM or PM. I love sleep!

I think there are two different kinds of stress. Enduring and passing. Long-term stress sits itself on your shoulders and slowly grinds you into the ground, affecting relationships, physical condition, and even life span. Short-term stress is, for some people, kinda fun.

It’s probably a factor here, Ev, but I honestly think Jaime’s right. Sleep Dep is the Mind Killer. Look at my past life- my job (spinning) was a constant stressor. For six hours every night I had to be bang on, accurate to within one-hundredth of a second, and I had to do it well. I had to give everyone in my club something to come back for next time. Every night. And I had to look like I was having a good time doing it. =)

But here’s the thing- I could sleep until my body was ready to get up. No alarm clock. I think we grossly underestimate the negative impact of being woken up unnaturally all the time.

My eating habits now are comparable to what they were back then (terrible), and I’m not the sort of person to really notice stress. But that alarm slaps me out of sleep five or six days out of the week. Add that to later nights during the summer (average bedtime of midnight) and you don’t give yourself any reserve to fall back on if you go through a period of real sleep dep.

Thankfully I work for a company that sees value in taking a short hit for long term benefit, and I can take a day or two to catch up. The timing is lousy, but that’s sort of the point, isn’t it.

Denis! Welcome! And thank you very much for your creations! Keep doing it. The fire garden was one of the big features of that night for many of us.

  8. going back to sleep patterns– My brother told me of some study done that says going to bed an hour earlier is better than sleeping in three hours or something.

It pointed at farmers hours and people before electric light. Humans tended to go to bed earlier and wake with the sun. It may sound silly, and I’m sure lifestyle has something to do with it, but I was at my healthiest when I was working at 5 in the morning. I too have had the night jobs where sleeping in ’till 3pm isn’t enough because you went to bed at 6am. O’ well. rEst up my friend. together we shall fight evil, and gingivitis and maybe even have a date before christmas!

  9. gurton – i just woke up earlier than usual….no good.

of course, i did go to sleep at 3…

    i’ll try again tonight.
