another li’l countdown

Neil’s HD crashed. Heather’s HD crashed. I came home today to that status screen with the Energy Star logo on it.

I’m backing up my photos.

Hello, my little ticking time bomb.

  1. I think it may be my hard drive that’s next. It’s making some very unique noises…

    ruh roh!

smooches my iBook and tells it nice, romantic things.

  2. Oh it’s not the technology. It’s the leveraged market. They’ll squeeze the public for as long as possible until some smart money comes along and blows the cable & DSL market wide open down there. Until then y’all are still on 8-track mono cassetes.

  3. The broadband market is pretty much universal everywhere but, say, the Carolinas ;) Honestly, only two people I know on dialup still. Heck, my MOM is getting free fibre to the door this august. I’m dearly hoping she retires to her bay house so I can move back in now. >

  4. I know it’s available. But the majority of Americans are still using dial-up. And I guess that’s fine if all you use your connection for is email. But that’s like going to the ocean for a cup of water: a shocking waste of resource and not too smart besides.
