and back again

So I was actually really away from it all for I guess two full days. Qualicum is a long way from anywhere without actually being too far to travel. Does that make sense? Time gets left behind at my parents’ brand new place on the beach. The surf is right there, about twenty feet from the window at high tide. Lots of sea gulls and sea lions and sea’ls. 8D

And I stayed away from anything work related. Had a couple fun text convos on the cell, but that was as close as civilization got to me. Well- Dad has an eMac, and I checked my blog a few times to see what was new, but I couldn’t post. Odd that- being a tourist on your own blog.

It snowed this morning, and reminded me of growing up in Prince George. I smiled- a rarity for that early in the morning unless I’m still up.

I read a good shwack of Jim’s blog while I was up there, going back as far as I could. I really enjoy his writing style- a very adept handle on the language, giving you the feeling you’re with him in his stream of consciousness. I smiled a lot reading that. His life is every bit as complex as any of ours, but he reminds me that it’s really never as bad as you think. Reminds me of what people say about me.

In ’91 or so I captioned a sketch with the words, “Stubbornly refuse to become blinded to the beauty that is still in the world”. I know Jim sees it too, but his style makes you feel like for him it’s not quite such a defiant act.

So I make a point of occasionally reminding myself of three rarely shared stars, The Little Prince, the way light plays for anyone who will take the time to watch, and the fresh air you only find after thunderstorms. Maybe it is an act of defiance for me, but I don’t think that should matter. I certainly won’t take it for granted.

jesteR uses a sig sometimes- [There are people elsewhere in the world who would kill for my “problems”] or something very like that. I had to paraphrase. But it’s true and I wish more people would take more time to remind themselves of that.

*whew* I just deleted a long rant about racism and apathy and doom. Had to be done. Can’t very well send big ups to Jim and then rant about the end of the world in the same post. ~!woosh

Think about this- What would happen if everyone picked up just one piece of litter every day? Just how far would that level of awareness take us? The world would be an exponentially more hopeful place overnight. Guaranteed. Think about it. Pick up a piece of litter and stop pollution, yes, but stop hunger, stop war, stop apathy. Take care of each other. I promise you. I absolutely guarantee it. So lead by example and see what happens. And spread the word.

This rant has been brought to you by the words: “perspective”, “love”, and “common sense”.

  1. Nice post :) I always enjoy reading your blog! And what you say about yourself being stubborn when it comes to seeing the beauty in the world kind of surprises me. You’re one of the more positive people I’ve met and it’s good fun to talk with you.
