woosh ~!~

faders

In the morning I go to Vancouver for an interview. A big one. The life changer. The job itself isn’t particularly glorious but the doors it opens…

You remember Migs. You can read the Miguel Nunes hit list at imdb.com. He and his current business partner are hiring crew for post-production work (their two companies mesh together very well). I made it abundantly and overwhelmingly clear that I would very much love to be part of that crew. Miguel’s game. Those of his team that know me are game. So I have to meet Nicole tomorrow. And she must hire me. No problem-o.

The job is ground-level. Tech work. Cutting tape, bundling cable, fetching lunches, scrubbing tapes, bundling more cable, fetching coffee, sorting and filing tapes and a hojillion other things I don’t know about yet. It’s what Miguel started out doing way back in the day. As a volunteer. So this is a huge leg-up. Nicole has already told me that I’ll be thrown in head first and there’s a ton to learn. I have no doubt I’ll drink it up and wonder where the rest is. Ravenous!

If I get the job I move to Van in September. Maybe end of August even. I’m not sure exactly when they start up again, but I have to be there well before they do. Find a place to live and such.

Oh, and Maigen moves with me.

True story.

On July 18 I fly down to Charlotte. I meet the family (hi gamma & The Momma!) and friends (butter? et al). We hang out for a couple days and then we load up her car and drive home. For keeps. Just in time for her to sing at a wedding I’ve been hired to photograph, no less.

I know. But it’s all true.

Meanwhile, back in the present: after you’ve seen us be pirates at the Bay Centre this Friday you will want to catch the Impromaniacs on Saturday night at the Fernwood Community Association. I’ll be on stage for the second show, and I highly recommend getting tickets for both. Two totally different shows, of course, so you’ll feel like you missed out if you only see one. Check the website for details on The Impromaniacs present Six Degrees Of Improvisation.

And yes, on Sunday I return to the decks with top40 nowhere to be seen. Sauce goes gravy- I mean groovy with a hospitality industry appreciation night done right. Come hang out, chat up your favorite bartenders, and maybe even socialize with your ol’ pal djmischiff. I’m excited for this. A high quality evening, for sure.

A couple days later I turn 34. Shnykees. That’s old. When I was 15 I told my mom I’d own a Porsche by 35. I’d best get on that.

So. ’tis the silly season. And the longest day of summer has already come and gone. ~!~woosh~!~ DAMN I’m having a good time.

  1. Best of luck! Oh, and I really like that photo, too. It screams “technological potential” or something…

  2. It is, indeed, all fabulous. All my thoughts are with you, today and always. You will wow her, I guarantee it!

    COMMENT:
it just occurred to me that I could probably start signing is as Maigen, yes? *sigh*
