It’s only a matter of time before spammers hit Facebook. I say that because I’m really enjoying not having to deal with them over there the way I do here at the ol’ bloggy blog, and I know they hate that I’m enjoying that. I spend more time over there these days, because I only have five minutes every couple of days to get on a computer and I don’t want to spend it slashing trash.
The blog, as you have noticed, is stagnating. I just don’t have the time, in the most literal way possible. I work. I come home with just enough time to jam in maybe six hours’ sleep before jetting off again. And on the weekend I frankly have better things to do, no matter how much I miss my vent sessions here.
So I don’t know.
Has the time come?
I’m thinking about it.
Well. I would get ~100 spams a day on davin.ws and davingreenwell.com for a while.. and then i installed something called a “beacon” .. which forces the commenter to type in a specific word or phrase. spammers don’t check this and it’s really easy for the users to do. i have gotten 0 spam since… best thing i’ve done for my blog in years.
i have thought lots about this – about whether or not to shut down my own site. at the end of the day, orkut, friendster, highfive, myspace have come and gone, facebook will as well. i like that i can come here and read the stories of mischiff regardless of any social networking site’s popularity status.
facebook’s downfall has and will be the third party applications, the x-me’s, the super-pokes, the iLikes, etc. the applications have turned the site partially into spam for themselves now, and people can’t resist clicking on these ridiculous things. it’s a tragedy of the human condition..
I SO AGREE! All these stupid myspace clone apps trying to pollute FB… JUST when I was loving the clean lines of the place. I get a few invites for various add-ons every day and I rarely bother looking into them. No deal. I like me some clean webestate.
And thanks for the nod for continuing the blog. I agree- it’s good to be a blog tourist, and to have something fresh for the other tourists. For now I will keep on keeping on.
