scared me

silent hill

Among the scariest experiences I’ve ever had was a video game called Silent Hill for the PS2. No, really. For real scared. Scarier than seeing Friday the 13th when I was ten or eleven. Scarier than facing down a cougar (the furry kind, not the leopard print kind) in the dark. Scarier than… well, it was scary. Great moody soundtrack (which really is half the battle), cinematic timing, and a bewildering setting designed to disorient. Great game. I highly recommend. I also suggest not playing it alone in a dark house.

Anyway, tomorrow night, Friday, the movie opens. They went & made the movie, Silent Hill. According to imdb the movie is more about the game franchise than it is the original game, playing on the cinematic style and themes. I had no idea they were doing the movie. Back when I was playing the game the other big game of the genre was Resident Evil, which I didn’t find nearly so interesting and certainly nowhere near as thrilling. But Resident Evil got the movie deal.

So, we will see. Maybe I’ll even go see the movie in the actual theatre. Probably not. It takes a pretty significant movie event to drag the ridiculous ticket prices out of my pocket. Maybe the DVD, then. Nevertheless, I’m glad to see the game earned a movie.

  1. Dude!
I’m in the same boat – I wasn’t even able to finish the first game for i freaked myself out too much.

Anyhow, I’m going to see it this weekend – perhaps even tonight. I’ll let you know if it’s worth it.

I look forward to the report!

Go see it, but don’t expect greatness. Wonderful Setting, cool use of key point of the game, but some overly cheesy dialogue.

Still, GO SEE IT! I love ‘pyramid head’ !
