South Park vs Muhammad (and Comedy Central)
I find myself in the odd position of applauding just about every side of this rumble, with the exception of a particularly whiny Catholic League.
What I don’t understand is why somebody, South Park in this instance, doesn’t just post a picture of, say, Britney Spears, with a label across the bottom saying, “Muhammad”. It most obviously is not an attempt to depict an Islamic holy figure, while still insulting all the right people. More, even. Issue dodged.
No, I guess that doesn’t really dodge the issue. Muslims might very well decide that I am, in fact, trying to mock their faith by depicting their venerable prophet as a tawdry pop star.
In which case I do solemnly declare that such is not my intent. That’s Britney up there. I’m making fun of the media and Western Culture, not y’all. Promise. But maybe if I have to explain myself the position is untenable. So I apologize for being an insenstive westerner.
Speaking of having to explain yourself, here’s how twisted and messed up Western Culture is:
They call that culture. Art. A blow for/against the anti-choice movement. I think it’s hilarious that both sides are up in arms.
Art, free speech, cross-cultural sensitivity… questions about the very fundamental structure of the universe and whose idea it was, anyway…
No wonder the world is going conservative. So much easier than trying to work it all out.
Wow, what is that bear-woman thing? Have any more information about it? Certainly looks like it’s trying to say something, I just have no idea /what/.
COMMENT:
hey Krishen, this an artist depiction of Britney Spears giving birth on a bear skin rug apperently a ‘Monument to Pro-Life’.
i ranted slightly on my website about it, but since have realized that getting people talking about the issue is a good thing
