Hi there. You may remember me. I’m the guy who writes this blog. That hot chick in the pic is my girlfriend. She’s pointing to our new apartment across the street from the beach in Vancouver’s West End. The corner suite. With the Seventh Floor Unobstructed View Of English Bay & The Pacific Ocean.
She gets full credit. With my work schedule making things exceedingly tricky Maigen took it upon herself to jet over to the mainland last week and she found us this little gem for far less than I had fearfully budgeted. Nice work, love.
We were over there this weekend to sign for the place and so I could put in three days’ training for the new job. I just got back a couple hours ago, sans Maigen. She’s gainfully employed in Vancouver now and I’m looking forward to catching up with her closer to the end of the month. Somehow time has flown by. At maximum zoom. Two weeks ago I had all sorts of plans to drag her around Victoria meeting everyone I want her to meet but here we are. Or rather there she is. Or here I am and here she isn’t. Or shut up.
Lots has happened in the past couple weeks. Obviously, or you would have heard from me. Maigen arrived and was royally welcomed by the finest representatives our great country has to offer. Jason wrangled a very successful partay at Moxie’s for her welcoming-slash-birthday. I photographed a beautiful and fun wedding for Christine and Murray Pears, with davin as the very much appreciated second camera. Murray built Christine a canary yellow Charger for a wedding gift. Built. A muscle car. How am I supposed to impress a chick after that? And said chick performed as singer for the wedding. Maigen awed the crowd with a sultry sweet rendition of “At Last” while Christine and her father walked down the path to the altar.
The next day was BC Day and we spent a good chunk of it skipping rocks and wading potholes in Sooke with davin & Natalie. Lots more good pics, I think.
Tuesday I went back to work with Neil for a few days while Maigen combed the web and then the streets for an apartment in Van. As I said she did smashingly well.
There was one little rain cloud – Charles McQueen died. I think bettas are not cut out for summer. He just wasn’t up for the increase in ambient temperature in my apartment. He spent a few days moping at the bottom of the tank and then slipped away quietly one night in his castle. Very peaceful and I’m sure he’s much happier now wherever little fishies go.
After laying him to rest and packing a few things Maigen and I were off to Van, which sorta brings this post full circle.
I’ve got three days’ training under my belt as Assistant Sound Editor for DaVinci’s Inquest, Canada’s highest rated fiction tv show.
The job title sounds awfully impressive but in reality I don’t think I quite rate a line in the credits. Mostly I load audio & picture for the actual editors. But I do get to learn all the gear. And there is a lot of gear. I get to work crazy long hours for what will probably end up looking like $10 an hour. But the hands-on experience and the credit are worth solid gold. Everyone else has to spend $25000 for a year of school and then volunteer for a year or two and then work their way through a hundred small projects hoping for a shot at the job I’m walking in to. Damn straight I intend to work my ass off to justify their faith in me.
Yep, I’m feeling very very fortunate. It would be nice to have a hojillion dollars but other than that I can’t imagine being happier right now.
I DID miss you.
awesome location for your new place!
