see you soon

513am

That there is one of the last pics I got of us while Maigen was here. 5:13am at Lenny’s in Vancouver. Before she even came up she had decided we were going to spend our last night together awake, wandering the streets and talking, not missing a minute. She got her wish, even if it wasn’t strictly planned. Serendipity is a wiley mistress.

See, I had a bunch of banking to do on the way out from Victoria. I got that done, but in the process allowed the key phrase “money” to leave my brain. When we hit the ferry terminal I realized I’d completely forgotten to bring any cash. And for some reason my deposits hadn’t been credited yet. So there we were, at the terminal, after banking hours, with $40 and without enough time to sprint back to Vic and grab cash. Maigen had spent her last money already and her credit card was safely back in Charlotte. So with a $20 bill and a fistful of change (thank you camera bag) we boarded and let the universe have her way with us. Of course we did. We trust her.

Long story short: we tried a few more bank machines during the night but no luck. We wandered just as Maigen had planned we would. We were tempted to go straight to the airport but I couldn’t remember if the terminal is open 24 hours and we didn’t have so much money that I was really willing to risk having to burn more on bus fare to get downtown.

So we wandered downtown. Blenz was good for a comfy seat and tea while we chatted away the first couple hours. I somehow forgot the swarms of randoms downtown. Sketchy, thou art Granville on Thursday night. But we had a great time. The Roxy Burger provided us with much needed carbs and another jolt of java. Eventually we made our way to Lenny’s and the inevitable charming company there. We had more tea.

The night trickled away in spite of our best efforts. We spent the 14 hour adventure talking about everything and nothing, but mostly we just spent it together. We went to the airport. We found her gate. We hugged for a long time. We said, “see you soon.” And then she was gone.

  1. Thirty-nine days though, Deej.

    Or something like that. :)

I miss her oodles… luckily we have text messaging. I am currently trying to find a box large enough to ship her here for the 29th.

    COMMENT:
32 days until he gets here. I mean, not that I’m … counting … or anything…

  2. bwahaha…. Granville can be adventurous any time of day, but you were there during the early morning hours? You two must’ve been involved in a deep convo for you to be able to disregard the parade of sketchers. Good times :)
