Ms Victoria Snow

What a great day for a walk. Jen figured she wouldn’t be able to make it to the bank in CanWest so she came along. We took loads of pics, very few of which will seem at all interesting to people who deal with snow every winter. Victoria and the Lower Mainland tend to completely discombobulate with half a foot of snow though, so the novelty is endlessly entertaining to me. We spent hours out there.

After taking a slew of pretty shots Jen made a snow angel and complained of a wet bum for the next ten minutes.

I reckon she’s got just about the best pitching arm on a girl I’ve ever met on the battlefield. After I gave her the victory facewash we decided we’d better get to work on the obligatory “cute couple making a snowman together” thing.

victoria snow takes a call

She turned out to be a snow… mistress. Introducing Ms Victoria Snow, whom you might know from such cinematic triumphs as Snow Cones 1 & 2, Ice Cream, Red Hot Ice Queen, Victoria Does The North Pole and Melting The Ice Box.

And then we we’re ready for hot beverages in Cook Street Village. A perfect afternoon. And now we’re settling in with a couple of videos (none featuring Ms Snow, if you’re wondering). Johnny may be calling at 10:30 if the club is busy enough, but I’m suspecting downtown will be pretty quiet tonight.

The town is sorta split. Half of us are reveling in the novelty, even if most of that half can’t be trusted to drive. And the other half are cursing everything from the gods to the road crews.

I dunno. I listen to these complainers and wonder what they expect the City to do. In a town where we might get three days of snow a year you can hardly expect anyone to be at all interested in paying the taxes necessary to buy a proper fleet of snow removal equipment. Or the wages necessary for a crew sizeable enough to handle the brief but city-wide effort. If you ask me it’s pretty simple. Slow down. Don’t drive if you don’t have to. Slow down. And for the love of all that is holy invest in all-season tires. Duh. And slow down. Any sudden moves cause a loss of traction. It’s just physics, people.

Meanwhile, I had a fabulous day. Hope yours was too. If I do end up working tonight I think you should make your way down to the club and we’ll have a couple warm-in-the-bellys. If you don’t read this until tomorrow and you’ve suddenly got the day off gimme a call and we’ll go Crazy Carpet somewhere, possibly landing in the ocean and requiring rescue by snow bunnies. mmmmsnowbunnies…
