battlestar galactica

OMG! (Yes, I just said OMG)

So I’ve allowed myself to get hooked on the new Battlestar Galactica series. The writing is very sharp and the special effects are truly a step forward. It did take me maybe four episodes to invest any emotion in the characters but they got me in the end.

The Cylons were created by Man.
Starbuck is a chick.

I think over here in North America we’re up to episode four this Friday night but those lucky sods in the UK have already wrapped the season of thirteen episodes. Oh yes, I just finished watching the finale.

I spent half the final episode jaw agape. The direction was bang on, with the stakes ramping up for four different story lines, and still there were surprising twists. I did not see this coming. How often can you say that about tv anymore? I had a couple minor disappointments but overall I would love to see this show get the recognition it deserves.

If you watch the show you may not want to click this spoiler, but even if you do click I bet you’ll still be stunned at how it all goes down. Bravo, writer guys, bravo.

For those of you who don’t watch it because you just don’t do sci-fi shows… naw, never mind. Your loss. You probably didn’t get Buffy, either.

And for people like Talktalk who won’t give it a chance because “it’s not the original”… well, people like you were nervous about radio & colour tv too so I can’t be bothered with you either. Drag yourself out of the hole, already.

For the rest of us: HOOWAH! This is entertainment.

  4. Another good scifi, which unfortunately got cancelled is Firefly. If you ever get the chance to watch it I suggest you do. Sort of a cowboy in space idea. Very well done. It was done by Joss Whedon, and he did it very well. Here is a link if you are at all interested.

  5. BSG rocked. I just watched the finale myself last night. I was shocked to see it come on SkyOne yonks before SciFi, but I guess they paid for some of it. I hope you recognize a bunch of the outside shots. Many uses of downtown Vancouver and TONS of uses of SFU. The AQ was used for at least 5 different locations in the story. SFU’s west mall was the exterior of that museum Starbuck found the arrow at. Halo and Boomer were hanging out on the steps to the convo mall a lot. Really funny/neat to see. A BC ferry was used a bunch for some cargo bays too I think.

Anyways, great series, too bad it is over… eager for a second season.

I never watched Buffy, but his other show, Firefly is a damn worthwhile scifi series.

  6. Ok already! Quit teasing and get my DVD burnt so I can watch all this! I got hooked on the miniseries and was almost watching Epi #2 when I decided to wait til I had all of them together. Me, that DVD and a big screen TV have a date {:>)

BTW – got and loved Buffy, but loved her more with Spike. Cried when Angel ended so disappointedly. Avidly sat in front of the boobtube to watch the premiere of Firefly, only to find I hadn’t even reached the bottom of the popcorn bowl before it was cancelled. Of course, I was eating slowly…but it was a good show!

  7. I’m being taunted with this Firefly thing, and yet I can’t find the files out there. All sorts of fandom but no files. Anyone got the dvd?

One of the things that really make BSG stand out for me is the re-watchability. I’ve seen a couple episodes two or even three times now for one reason or another, and they don’t wear thin. That’s huge.

  8. Coolio. I can rip it in about ten minutes so it’s not like he’d lie awake at nights wondering if his dvd was doing alright out there.
