go jon go

Most of us with the wisdom to get it have thought it. And Jon Stewart took it to the front lines with his appearance on CNN’s Crossfire.

They missed the point, naturally. That was sort of the point he was trying to make. So they made it for him by not getting it. See? =)

It’s really not that elusive. If you have opportunity in a respected forum to ask politicians questions that actually matter, shouldn’t you? What the hell are you doing harping on the media-hyped non-scandal? Why don’t you ask these representatives of the people the questions that people really need the answers to? Like how will you represent us? I seriously don’t give a flying rat’s ass if he’s done military service, smoked pot, saved children from a burning house or ever changed his mind. I want to know if he’s going to champion the causes that matter to me. I want to know if he’s more interested in lining his pockets or raising the quality of life for his electors, and that doesn’t mean I want to know if he’s cheated on his wife.

Simply put: personal scandal is nothing but media candy to sell ad space. We should know better. But we all watch the same tv melodramas and we can’t see why politics should be any different.

Jon is saying that these guys, with their vaunted respectable news-type show, are wasting our time. Worse. They’re causing real damage by fueling the fire and becoming nothing more than tools. Four partisans do not make one non-partisan point of view between them. They make a focus group for all that is sagging and bloated with the system. And when Jon pointed this out to them they whined that he wasn’t being a respectful guest.

They invited him to the show thinking it would make for some light-hearted easy marksmanship, and Jon quite casually blasted their tunnel-sighted worlds out from under them with the simple request that they stop hurting America.

I know, I’m pointing out the obvious. But if you haven’t seen it yet you can Google Jon’s appearance on Crossfire or you can go straight to a good source for Jon’s interview and the follow-up courtesy of Random($foo). And who is Jon Stewart, anyway?

After watching the clip I’m left with only one question: Is it just me or are all the thinking, rational people voting for Kerry?

In other news, the album from Lee’s birthday is up. Nothing too scandalous. Just good clean fun and some nifty shots.

Now I go back to painting, and then off to work for a little Retro action.
