Last night I handed over much of the responsibilities of Sponsorship Coordinator for the Victoria International Improv Festival to Briana.
When I first agreed to tackle the job several people asked me, “do you not know how to say no?” It’s just too much. I was getting things done, but not Getting Things Done. I don’t have the time I want to be able to devote to this project (it requires daylight hours), so the smart thing to do is hand off while there’s still something to be handed off. And Briana will do a faboo job. She’s got experience with this sort of thing (and no, I don’t mean picking up after boys) =)
It was hard to let go. I didn’t want to concede defeat. I managed to convince myself I haven’t conceded anything except to common sense. When I need to be pounding pavement I’m out of phone range pounding pavers (see yesterday’s entry). I’m just not available during business hours, and that’s what the job description calls for pretty much by definition.
So thank you, Rayner. Saved my soul and the festival too. Neat trick. And I was serious when I said I’ll buy you dinner. This is a huge weight off my shoulders and I’m just not smart enough to delegate efficiently. I’m sure I would have pulled it off, but there would have been a certain amount of panic from people waiting for results. With you on side they’ll breathe much easier. Me too.
Besides, buying you dinner consists of lemon grass & snow peas, doesn’t it? Some soy milk if you’re feeling crazy?

may I recommend the deep fried soy cheese?
