Happy Birthday Lola!
Lola is, after all else, Nick’s girl. I admire Nick for many things, but even if I’d never met him, you’d have to give him the nod for being that guy who attracted Lola. As lucky as she is to have him, he’s doing all right for himself too.
Lola hated the name she was born with. Didn’t suit her. (It doesn’t.) So she changed it. Legally. Cool.
She’s larger than life and you just can’t help get drawn up in it with her when she bursts into the room like a sunbeam on a cloudy day. Great hugs, THE most infectious laugh, and so much personality you can’t help but feel like a backup singer to her Front & Center.
Not that she’d dream of overshadowing anyone. No no. She’ll joyfully draw you into the spotlight & make sure you know she thinks you’re special. She gets enormous pleasure out of having a little something with everyone. Sincerely. She loves people and she loves that they’re all so different.
That’s a bigger deal than it sounds. Think about it. Most of your friends got to be your friends because of how much you have in common. She doesn’t work the same way. Very cool. She’s got a firm hold on that quality that has eluded me so far- a certain social fearlessness that lets her march on up to anyone who’s struck her fancy for whatever reason and let ’em know it.
Worldly? Sure. Been through it? Yeah. She’s that social butterfly/cannonball who nevertheless knows the value of honesty. Upfront & forthright & unafraid to demand the same from the people she holds dearest.
Just sayin’. She’s Good People.
Happy Birthday, Lola. Thanks for being you, and knowing me.
Wow, so well written and oh-so-very true.

–Your Gay Husband
As someone who has just recently been initiated into the world of Lola (and the world of Wondermill all together, for that matter), it’s funny to read a Lola rave that fits with just about everything my first impressions were of her. Yay Lola, Yay Mill Crew, Yay my first ever Post!
