minor epiphany

It just hit me- this whole blogging thing. I’m not saying it’s like this for everyone, but for me it’s so much like the movie, “Pump Up The Volume“. Christian Slater plays an angst-ridden misfit teen with a poet’s heart who uses radio to speak his mind.

Well, I’m not so much a teen anymore. And I wouldn’t call my condition angst-ridden. But I am using the media to speak my mind.

There are differences. I welcome feedback. For him it was a way to speak to an audience without fear of judgement, whereas here I’m inviting debate. I haven’t got much of that yet but I’m sure it’ll happen. Some of my opinions seem to spark something in some people.

So yeah. Pump Up The Volume. If you haven’t seen it, do it before you get too old. If you have… well, see it again. It was one of the last decent teen-angst movies made. Where it was about empathy and making us realize it was going on all over. These days it seems more like H-Wood is just cranking out more fodder, secure in the knowledge that kids are bored and desperate for anything new.

But that is a rant for another day. I just wanted to throw that idea out there, that I for one am just trying to communicate, just trying to be understood. Trying to compare my ideas to those of everyone else I can reach. By all means, anytime you get the urge to speak your mind you just go ahead and click that “converse here” button at the bottom of every post. That’s gotta be half the reason I’m doing this.

  1. I blog for a bunch of reasons (I’ve been meaning to write a post about it, or even something linked at the side, along with an “about” and “contact” page… but no time. :)

Anyways, I can relate to the motive. For me it’s kind of like a journal where people talk back if they want to. A place to share ideas, wrestle over them, maybe get feedback on them, that sort of thing.

As well, in a strange way I blog publicly for a very ‘me’ reason – it encourages me to live life more fully. Knowing that others might read an adventure makes me more likely to attempt it. Knowing that more people might see a picture makes me more likely to climb a wall/tree/hill etc to take it. Perhaps sad, I dunno. But you do whatever you gotta do to live life to the max, I say.

One thing I’m sure of though is that we have a neat sort of community thing going on. I really, really like that. If it was just one or two of us, it wouldn’t be nearly so fun. :)

    Cheers.
